Introduction
The Department of Seerat Studies, a significant segment of the Faculty of Arabic & Islamic Studies was established in 2017 with the objective to familiarize the new generation in specific and the whole ummah in general, with the seerat of the last Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) and to promote knowledge, research and teachings associated with Prophetic Seerah. So, to develop a deep and academic understanding of Seerah and research in its diverse fields the department is offering various courses at different levels.
Major functions of the department
The department is running courses in two major disciplines:
1. Seerat Studies
2. Dars-e-Nizami
1. Seerat Studies discipline contains various programs as below given details:
BS Islamic Studies with specialization in Seerat Studies.
Mphil Islamic Studies with specialization in Seerat Studies.
PhD Islamic Studies with specialization in Seerat Studies.
Diploma in Seerat Studies
Certificate course in Seerat studies.
2.The department is also offering Dars-e-Nizami, a program unique of its kind, for the students of deeni madaras under the auspices of the Seerat Studies Department. AIOU is the only public university offering this program. Under this program, Dars-e-Nizami courses are offered which include:
SSC Dar-s-Nizami (thanvia aamah),
HSSC Dars-e-Nizami (thanvia khassah)
BS Islamic Studies with specialization in Dars-e-Nizami (Al-Aaliah & Al-Alameyyah).
BS Islamic Studies with specialization in Dars-e-Nizami for international students is expected to be launched shortly.
Seerat Studies Journal:
The department is publishing an annual research journal on “Seerat Studies”. The contents published in the journal consist of academic and scientific research on the Seerat-un-Nabi (SAW) and relating topics.
The first issue of the journal was published in 2017 and got national level presidential award.
International Seerat Conferences:
The department organizes national and international conferences annually. Introduction of some of the conferences is as under:
International Seerat Conference 2016 jointly organized by the Department of Seerat Studies AIOU & HEC titled: "Social Justice and Welfare of the Society in the Light of the Seerat-ur-Rasool (SAW)".
International Seerat Conference organized in 2017, titled “Adb Ul-Ikhtelaaf: in the Perspective of Seerat-e-Tayyba and Islamic Thought.”
International Seerat Conference in 2018, titled: “Fiqh Al-Seerah: Core Themes and Contemporary Applications”.
International Seerah Seminar 2020 titled "Prophetic guidance regarding national health".

Objectives
- To introduce the students with the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) through degree courses (Matric, Intermediate and BS).
- To initiate certificate and diploma courses on the basic knowledge of Seerah at mass level.
- To prepare specialization courses for in depth research in Seerah.
- MPhil and PhD level research for the identification of the challenges faced by the Ummah and Pakistani society and their solution.
- Organizing international and national conferences and seminars on the topics related to social, political, environmental, and economic issues and their solution in the light of Seerah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
- Publication of the articles and monographs of the seasoned scholars and academicians of Seerah on important international and national issues and their solution.
- Ensuring availability and accessibility of the classical and modern literature of Seerah in the form of printed and digital library resources.
- Indexation and digitization of the sources of Seerah through index and mass level digital database.
