Welcome to the Department of History!
Established in 1997, Department of History is determined to instill passion for past. I would like to extend warm welcome from the Department of History, at Allama Iqbal Open University, the largest distance learning institution in South Asia. Department of History since its inception keen on providing highest quality education to our students irrespective of age, place of residence, cast, cultures and creed that allows a large number of students to be enrolled in academic programs that fulfils the slogan of the University “Education for all”. The Department of History has been offering a broad range of academic programs at Intermediate, Graduate and Post-graduate level (M.Phil, PhD). Through innovative teaching methods our competent faculty respond both distance learning and face to face teaching (blended integrated mode). We determine to instill in our students, passion for past and motivating them to critical thinking thus embraces the mission statement of the Department to to produce sensitized, educated, and trained graduates, with a balanced approach and world view who can serve humanity without any racial, regional or intellectual biases.

Introduction
Department of History occupies a prominent place in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of Allama Iqbal Open University. The department aims to uphold that position, while continuing to expand and extend connections to scholarly and public communities across and beyond Pakistan. The Department of History has been offering a broad range of academic programs at intermediate, graduate and post-graduate level (MPhil, PhD). MA History Program first was introduced in 1997. In 2009, the Department initiated the revision process to revise the whole Scheme of Studies. The Department launched MA History (Revised Scheme of Studies). M.Phil History in Spring 2015 & Phd History in 2019 respectively which fulfils the slogan of the university “Education for all”. Mission statement of the Department focuses on to produce sensitized, educated and trained graduates, with a balanced approach and world view who can serve the humanity without any racial, regional or intellectual biases. Presently six faculty member have been working in the department. Through innovative teaching methods our competent faculty respond both distance learning and face to face teaching (blended integrated mode) thus facilitating the slogan of the University “education for all’ regardless of their cast creed, culture age, place of residence or occupation that enables a large number of students to get university's education at their door step.

Objectives
To explore, the experiences of the human past though research. The Faculty believes that it is essential to be aware of the views, aspirations, and struggles of prior human communities, so that we might better understand the past and shapes the possibilities of the future
- To inculcate critical thinking and sensitizations about human past, present and future

- With the help of digitized tools to present the discipline of history as living subject
