Dr. Munir Khattak
Dr. Munir Khattak is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Islamabad. He holds both an MS and a PhD in English Language and Linguistics from the prestigious Universiti Putra Malaysia.
His academic and research interests encompass areas such as Genre Analysis, Language for Professional Purposes, Corpus Linguistics, Language Documentation, and Natural Language Processing (NLP).
With over 15 years of experience in the public sector higher education system of Pakistan, Dr. Khattak has been an active member of the academic community.
In addition to his teaching, he currently serves as the Program Coordinator for MPhil programs in the Department of English at AIOU, where he oversees academic administration and curriculum development.

Education

Dr. Munir Khattak’s academic journey has been marked by a strong research focus on medical communication, corpus linguistics, Natural Language Processing, and language documentation. He holds both an MS and a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the prestigious Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Experience

Dr. Munir Khan Khattak is a distinguished academic with over 15 years of experience in the field of higher education, specializing in Applied Linguistics. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor at the Department of English, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Islamabad, where he also holds positions as the MPhil English Program Coordinator and Coordinator for MPhil and PhD admissions in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. His leadership extends beyond the classroom, having served as the Chairman of the Department of English Language Teaching for over three years at LUAWMS, where he was instrumental in driving departmental growth and fostering academic development.

His leadership also extends to national-level policy development, including his involvement in the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, where he has served as an expert on the Graduate Education Policy-2023 and participated in many accreditation visits as a member of the HEC’s Campus Accreditation Committee. Further, as a specialist, Dr. Khan contributed to the National Education Policy Development Framework-2024 at Pakistan Institute of Education, Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training. In addition to his academic and leadership roles, Dr. Khattak has played an integral part in policymaking at AIOU, including serving as the secretary of a sub-committee focused on formulating undergraduate rules, regulations, and procedures. He has also contributed to the development of the Student Conduct and Discipline Regulations-2024 and is an active participant in the Task-Based Assessment initiative aimed at digitalizing student assessments to improve learning outcomes at graduate level.

Project, Research Interests

Dr. Munir Khattak's research expertise is evident in his extensive publication record, with over 20 research articles featured in renowned national and international journals. He has actively contributed to academic discourse by serving as a keynote speaker and presenter at more than 10 national and international conferences. His research spans areas such as corpus linguistics and natural language processing (NLP), with a particular focus on their applications in medical and professional communication. Dr. Khattak has mentored numerous MPhil students and is currently supervising both MPhil and PhD candidates in the Department of English at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU). In addition to his academic responsibilities, he serves as an editor for the Balochistan Journal of Linguistics and reviews for a variety of prestigious national and international journals
